About Me

“We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next, to find ourselves. We travel to open our hearts and eyes and learn more about the world than our newspapers will accommodate. We travel to bring what little we can, in our ignorance and knowledge, to those parts of the globe whose riches are differently dispersed. And we travel, in essence, to become young fools again- to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more.”

— Pico Iyer

My passions include writing, travel, and people. As such, ‘Conversations from the Road’ was born – travel stories told through conversations. My hope is that this blog will combine these three passions and ably reflect my philosophy on travel.

I believe that we travel to learn. To learn about places, to learn about cultures, to learn about people, and to learn about one’s self. Through our efforts to learn, I believe that we also teach. While we may yet find ourselves, we may also help those around us to find themselves.

I believe that the best way to learn, and to teach, is through conversation. This could be as fleeting as an acknowledgement or a well-placed smile, or it could be as dangerously opportunistic as a three-hour discussion on life and all its fascinating intricacies with the stranger at the end of the bar. I also believe that the best way to learn is through observations and reflections on that which is around us: nature, and all its equally as fascinating intricacies. In this way, we learn, and teach, through conversations with ourselves.

I am intensely curious about my ability to grow in thought and in spirit through interactions with places, with cultures, with people and with one’s self. My philosophy on travel is that it allows us to better develop and define who we are where the chaotic rush of day-to-day life at home does not. And so, through travel, we find ourselves.
